I didn’t think I was going to do it so soon, but I have been getting a lot of new subscribers. On Blog Differently, my new blog, I set a $5 a month tier. The plan is to have a daily newsletter for the premium tier.

Here is the information from my about page:

Hi, I'm Jason Weiland, and this website is all about the concept of "showing your work." Austin Kleon is a big influence of mine, and I learned from him that people do want to get an inside look into how I do what I do for work.
I have just opened up the paid subscription level of Blog Differently because I will be showing, almost every day, an inside look into the work I do writing for Medium and creating content for my blogs. I will send out regular newsletters that talk about my processes, how I come up with ideas for so much content, and how I schedule my time so I can create seven + articles and stories a week.
If you are interested in getting a look behind the scenes of what I do every week, you should support me by spending $5.00 a month to subscribe to my newsletter. Yes, I will still be posting free content here and on my blogs and Medium, but this is a chance to see what happens under the hood, and what goes into being a successful writer.

I’ve been reading Austin Kleon’s book, “Show Your Work” and he inspired me to start doing exactly that on my blog. I still want to post articles about blogging, but I also wanted to start doing daily newsletters where I talk about and show my writing processes. My life is complicated, and I do some interesting things to ensure that I get all the content I need for both my Medium account and my two blogs.

I am going to spend a little extra time each day documenting what I am doing as I go through my day and explain exactly how I am able to be so prolific even faced with everything else in my life that needs doing, like taking care of my kids and wife. I am finding it harder and harder to find the time to create all this content, yet still manage to get it all done.

I thought it would be interesting for me to “show my work” and give people a look behind the scenes. Over the past few years, at least since October of 2018 when I started publishing on Medium, I have developed processes of thinking and doing that helps me create a boatload of content each week, and I know it would be valuable to share that with others – writers, bloggers, vloggers – all content creators.

I’m not saying I’m special, but I know I love being able to get inside other writers' minds and I am sure there are plenty of people like me.

I wasn’t sure at first if I wanted to charge for a premium newsletter, but then I thought if I was doing the work to produce something every day, if would help me to have a little support from my audience. I know I will more than provide enough value to make up that $5 a month that someone would spend for the newsletter.

So far, I have only posted articles about blogging, which I will continue to do for free, but the daily newsletter content will only be available to premium members of Blog Differently and it will be epic in scope.

I look forward to sharing what goes on under the hood of my writing business because while it is not sexy by any means, it is so much fun and I am sure will be endlessly interesting to the right people. I do enjoy my time writing, especially when I am able to focus without distraction like I am able to on the night I write this.

I’m sitting here, at 10:30 at night, basking in the cool air conditioning, sitting perched on my chair at the kitchen table as my wife and kids sleep in their rooms. I usually listen to music, but tonight I felt that silence was called for and the only noise is the sound of a fan and the AC unit.

I’ve spent all night writing and working on my blogs and have enjoyed the uninterrupted flow of being able to focus without children running around or my wife asking me to do something. I love my family, but they are hard on a guy who is just trying to get through the next 100 words of an essay.

So, if you think you’d like to follow me and my writing processes, subscribe to my blog and newsletter and I will start sending you emails every day.
